Welcome!
I’m Mikayla (she/they), a Connecticut-born photographer and artist, and the creative force behind Fotosynthesis. To me, photography is a way of preserving the essence of a story, giving life to light, and illuminating the often unseen or overlooked connections between nature, humanity, and the universe. Fotosynthesis embodies this vision, holding fast to my belief that everything in life has a cyclical nature and that no state of being is permanent; life, in all its forms, is in a constant state of change which is what makes each image captured so unique.
Rooted in the idea of synthesis, my work blends light, color, and emotion to create something greater than the sum of its parts. Inspired by my upbringing and background in psychology and studio art, I explore themes of interconnectedness, impermanence, and transformation. Light is energy, and energy is connection and I strive to integrate art into daily life as much as possible as a means of self-expression, growth, and connection.
Through photography, I capture raw, organic moments—fragments of time that hold deep, unspoken stories. My digital art reimagines these fragments, weaving them into surreal compositions that blur reality and imagination. Each image reflects the universal energy that flows through and around us, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and embrace even the most minuscule connections that shape our world.
